This tutorial shows you how to quickly install Kodi 17.1 in order to Update Kodi on FireStick in 2017.
Kodi 17.1 Krypton Security Advisory: At the same time Kodi 17.1 was released, the United States government repealed Internet Privacy laws. This means that your own ISP now has the legal right to sell your browsing history to the highest bidder (ex: Verizon AppFlash). If you want to protect against this, follow my Kodi VPN setup guide (Video tutorial + written guide). This protects not just your Kodi data, but all of your transferred data.
So, after you update Kodi on FireStick, install Kodi 17.1 addons and protect yourself like I do and use my exclusive coupon code FIRETV25. This takes 60% off a 1 Year VPN subscription. After that, use my VPN setup guides & written guides to set up VPN service on any device (or all devices), including Amazon Fire Stick.

- Go to the FireStick Home screen.
- Make sure you Enable ADB Debugging on your FireTV. Go to the System / Settings area. Then make sure ADB Debugging is Enabled and Apps From Unknown Sources.
- Go back to the Fire TV home screen
- Then go to Search
- Enter the text “Downloader“
- Select the word “Downloader”. This will search for the Downloader app
- After the search results appear, select “Apps & Games”
- Then press Download / OK / Install
- Wait for the Downloader app to install
- Then select OPEN
- Now, in the Downloader app, Enter “http://bit.ly/kodi173arm” (don’t input the quotes, though).
- Choose DOWNLOAD
- Now wait for Kodi to download.
- Select “Open File“ if the Downloader app doesn’t open the file for you automatically.
- Select “Install“.
- Wait for Kodi to finish the install process.
- Then select “Open App” to start Kodi
- Finally, install TVAddons and secure your Kodi streams (use our Coupon Code FIRETV25 for %60 off a 1 Year VPN) after you update Kodi on FireStick.
IMPORTANT: Make sure to do Step #18 Above. Here’s why:
Why is Step #18 important? Step #18 sets up Kodi 17.1 TV Addons on your device and secures your streams by using automated encryption. Use my Kodi VPN YouTube video to install the VPN on your router, on your FireStick, Android, Windows PC, Mac, iPhone, or any device.
Google trackers are lurking on 75% of websites. Cover your tracks to protect yourself.
- If you get a “Cannot download OBB“ error after you install Kodi 17.1, then re-launch Kodi. Do this until the error goes away. Many users report that they need to re-launch Kodi up to 5 times for the OBB error to go away.
- If you’re still using Kodi 16.1 Jarvis, then you need to upgrade to Kodi 17.1 Krypton. This is true because TV Addons updated their Sources to use HTTPS encryption (stream security). So Kodi Jarvis will no longer play most TV Addons, and will give you a “check log for details” or other Kodi not working error. Basically, use the steps above to update to Kodi 17.1 so you can play the (newly-enabled) HTTPS streams!
KODI 17.1 POST-INSTALL VIDEO TUTORIAL
Check out the video below to see what to do after you install Kodi 17.1 FireStick. These steps work for Amazon FireTV, Android TV Boxes, and any other device with Kodi installed. Why? This is so because Kodi works just the same on all platforms. Therefore, Kodi is cross-platform (and open-source!).

This did not work for me. It says that it does not recognize the url.
the url for downloading the new kodi is wrong..
Thank you so much Emily! I had no idea – you are the best. I fixed it just now.
The new download link (as of May 25th 2017) is http://bit.ly/kodi173arm
A new version of Kodi was released (well actually 2 new versions within 7 days), bumping us all up from 17.1 to 17.3.
The install process is the same. Just change the URL to http://bit.ly/kodi173arm
Thx again
Ian
Hello, the new URL is http://bit.ly/kodi173arm
Hi I successfully downloaded the app etc and also got the message saying add-on migration in progress please wait… been waiting about an hour now… is this right or has something gone wrong? If so how do I fix it please :)
I followed your directions and my firestick has been stuck on the screen “add-on migration in progress, please wait…” everytime i start it back up and try it again it goes back to that screen. what do it do?
In this case it sounds like you need to reset the Kodi “data” and the cache, which is easy to do from the Fire TV home screen. Here’s how to do it: https://www.kodifiretvstick.com/kodi-pair-fix/
Hi Lydia,
I recommend you reboot the device and see if it works after that. If it’s still stuck on “add-on migration in progress” then try this method to clear everything out: https://www.kodifiretvstick.com/kodi-pair-fix/
It keeps saying that im not connected to the internet so how would I go about connecting it or checking the connection? Much appreciated
What is the last letter of the URL? Is it an i or and L?
After I added Fusion TV add-ons Went to zip file I clicked on the source that I made And begin here Or anything at that matter showed up
Sorry I meant to say nothing showed up In the zip file folderAfter clicking on the source I created
When I try to download “downloader” it comes up as App not found.
Hi Josh, usually when you get this message it’s because there was some change in your Amazon account that’s associate to your device. I recommend you try to de-register your Amazon account from the device. Then re-register it. Here’s amazon’s guide on how to register or de-register:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201452550
Hello Mike, when that happens, it means the Source is unavailable. So you need to either try a different source for the same addon, or try a different addon.
I recommend you first clear Kodi data with this guide:
https://www.kodifiretvstick.com/kodi-pair-fix/
For example, you can install Exodus using one of these guides:
https://www.kodifiretvstick.com/install-tv-addons-alternative/
https://www.kodifiretvstick.com/tvaddons-new-source/
https://www.kodifiretvstick.com/install-exodus-cazwall-repo/
Hi Mike, see my previous reply. Thanks
Hi Alex, from the Firestick / Fire TV home screen, go to Settings > Network. From there you can view WiFi networks. If you don’t see any WiFi networks, check the device to see if it feels hot to the touch. If it does, then your device’s issues are most likely caused by the fact that your device is overheating. To fix that you need to put a fan next to the device.
Hi Bonnie, to which URL are you referring?
I have an Amazon firestick with kodi build 16 on it.
Is it possible to upgrade this build 17, or do I need to buy a new kodi firestick?
Hi Mark. It is absolutely possible to update your version 16 Kodi to version 17. Check out this video Ian has on YouTube of the upgrade process to get to the latest stable release of Kodi 17.3 onto your Amazon FireStick. Enjoy!
You don’t need to buy a new Firestick. I have just upgraded to version 17 Krypton today and it works great.
Im Connected to the internet but when i try to add the file source it says couldn’t retrieve directory info. Is there any way to fix this?
Hi. Thanks for the great video. Everything is working well except Indigo. I keep getting an error message. Any suggestions on troubleshooting Indiho?
Thanks.
Sylvia
Iv installed Jodi 17.3 and it just says the whole library is empty so I have nothing on my kodi stick…. help!
Hi Debbie, Kodi (17.4 is the latest) doesn’t contain any content of its own. You’ll need to either access content that you already have or install add-ons to access content from the internet. I
suggest Covenant to get started, though you can head to the kodifiretvstick.com front page and see that there are lots of install guides for different types of content depending on what you’d like to watch.
After I select instal it’s saying app not installed
Hi Cordez,
Did you re-try? Typically the “app not installed” error is temporary.
Or it’s because there’s some left-over data in Kodi.
To erase the erroneous data, follow this video on how to Reset Kodi:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTP_0g_MZMg
It shows you how to clear data and clear cache, both of which you should do.
Thank you! I recommend you try a Kodi build instead of Indigo.
Here’s how to install Kodi Durex build:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltI630cxHcw
and here’s PULSE build:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7mu4Xw7JNc
Hi Tony,
Yes, usually this just means the “server” you’re downloading from is temporarily or permanently offline.
Here are some instructions that use servers that shouldn’t be currently offline:
1) Install Durex Build in Kodi https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltI630cxHcw
2) or Install Kodi PULSE Build https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7mu4Xw7JNc
3) Kodi Xenon build https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YV8gOdaY6qk
If I mail my Firestick to you would you be willing to change it over to the newest version? How much would you charge? Thank you! Connie
I just updated my kodi app to 17.3 and it keeps telling me “stream unavailable” not only on Exodus but also on Elysium and Specto. How do I fix this so we can use our kodi app?
