Have you recently bought a jailbroken Firestick from a person or website that it would play free TV shows, movies, and sports?

These work great for some people, but a lot of folks are uncertain how to get them configured once they have them. I’m going to walk you through all the steps to set up everything and check for updates to help you out

Also, these tips should still work great even if you just bought your Firestick straight out of the box, so go ahead and check this out either way!

Check Firestick Version

Before we get started, the first thing that I would highly suggest you do is to make sure that you have the most recent FireOS software update. You always want to be running the latest Amazon operating system on your Fire TV. To check which FireOS version you have, first go to the home menu, and then follow these steps:

Fix Jailbroken Firestick

Now on to the main event.

Here are a few steps you can take to fix your jailbroken Fire Stick, or just get it optimized for future use.

Turn Off Tracking / Fix Privacy

Big companies like Amazon are always going to want to track your data when you’re using their products. I strongly recommend that you turn all data tracking off in order to fix your Firestick privacy settings. Once they have this data, you have absolutely no say in how it is used or who has access to it. Here’s how you can turn that off:

  1. Start from the Main Menu
  2. Then go to Preferences
  3. Scroll over to Privacy Settings
  4. We want to make sure that the Device Usage Data is turned off

Turn on ADB Debugging and Apps From Unknown Sources

Now we’re going to make sure you’ve got your settings configured to allow a lot of the very best 3rd party apps you’re going to want to use with your jailbroken Firestick:

  1. From the home screen of your Fire TV, select Settings.
  2. Select My Fire TV and then Developer Options.
  3. Turn on ADB Debugging.
  4. Then turn on Apps from Unknown Sources.

This will allow us to use a lot of the best apps that we’ll use to stream free TV shows and movies right to your Amazon Fire Stick.

Install the Downloader app

Notice: Hackers create fake WiFi hotspots to steal your passwords when you log in to public WiFi. Secure your data.

Install Downloader on Firestick

Now that you’ve enabled 3rd party apps, we’ll need to install Downloader. Just like you might imagine, this is going to allow you to download some of these great content streaming apps. To do this:

  1. Select Home button
  2. Type Download using the keyboard on the Fire TV app on your phone OR you can press down the microphone button on your Firestick remote and say Downloader
  3. Once we have that we’re going to download and install it

This is a free app, and it’s one that I use all the time. You’re definitely going to want to have this set up on your Fire TV.

Install Filelinked

Once you open Downloader, you’ll see a prompt that asks you to “Enter the URL of the website you want to load or the file you want to download.” In the field below that, you’ll want to enter:

http://get.filelinked.com

Once this file has finished downloading, you’ll want to install and open Filelinked from the prompts that present themselves on your screen.

This app is a one-stop-shop for thousands of great streaming apps. You can use it to get Kodi, or whatever you need. Today we’re going to be looking to get two different apps one for movies and TV shows, and another for live TV.

Enter the address into Downloader

Once you’ve installed and opened Filelinked, you’re going to be prompted to enter a code. Just follow these steps and you’ll be on your way:

  1. Enter the code 85810914
  2. Next hit continue

This will take you to a new screen where you can download multiple apps from a single location. So here are the apps I recommend downloading now!

Cinema fix firestick

Install Cinema

Installing Cinema from Filelinked is easy. It should have already populated in the list that appeared after you entered your code. You’re just going to use the download button (arrow pointing down) first. Then once it’s downloaded you will click it again and install it.

As you might have guessed from the name, this is a solid app for movie streaming and is one of the most popular apps for Firestick users. Once you’ve installed it, you can open it up and start watching movies right away!

Install Mobdro

By now, you already know how this works. You’re going to install Modbro the exact same way you did for Cinema. Once again, look for the download button next to the app you’re looking for, download, and then install. It’s really that easy.

If you want another code with even more options for great streaming apps you can download, watch my video below. It covers some of the same steps we covered in this article, so you can follow along with the video if you prefer that, but there’s also tons of content that we weren’t able to get into here. I highly recommend you take a moment to check it out!

Install VPN to Fix Firestick

One thing we’ll never be able to recommend enough on this site is the importance of using a good VPN to protect your privacy. There are tons of great reasons why you don’t want big companies, the government, or hackers looking in on your browsing content or history. Not to mention being able to get around firewalls that try to censor the content you have access to.

As a final step, I would recommend installing a VPN on any internet-capable devices you may own. This guide will show you how to install a VPN on all your devices. Happy streaming!

Bonus: Typical Firestick Problems and Their Solutions

Wifi Connectivity Issues on Firestick

Connecting to Wi-Fi is a widespread problem with smart TVs, and not just Fire TV Sticks. Moreover, it’s aggravating, especially if you’re eager to test your latest Fire TV Stick.

Further, interference and Wi-Fi range are two possible causes of this problem.

Resetting the Firestick

You can reboot factory settings on your device by completing the instructions in the sequence shown below.

  • Remove the Fire TV Stick from the power socket and turn it off.
  • Turn off your Wi-Fi router and your broadband modem
  • Wait a minute before reconnecting your modem and turning on your Internet connection.
  • Reconnect the Fire TV Stick to the router, then switch on the TV and try again.

Solving Interference Issues

You can reboot your device by completing the instructions in the sequence shown below.

Observe the Distance Between Your Device and Wifi Source

  • Only a set distance separates Wi-Fi transmitters and Fire TV Sticks. And the signal will most likely become weaker as you get closer to the maximum permitted range.
  • If you’re getting poor signals from your Fire TV Stick because of the distance between it and your modem, consider relocating it closer.
  • If that isn’t possible, switch on your router’s range booster or add a wireless range extender.

Streaming Errors on The Firestick

Errors in video streaming are unavoidable at times. For example, the movie may not play or may take ages to begin, or it may stutter or stop abruptly and not resume. However, the remedies suggested below will address the problem for the most part.

Checking Connectivity

  • Amazon strongly recommends a connection speed of 8 Mbps since you can watch HD material at that speed.
  • If you want to play at 4k resolutions, you’ll need a minimum of 25 Mbps.
  • Some streaming networks recommend 30 Mbps. Therefore it would be wise to verify what the streaming provider advises.
  • Consider unplugging any additional devices that aren’t in use from your Wi-Fi network.
  • Remember that even laptops in sleep mode may be sucking up your Wi-Fi, so it’s best to turn it off or unplug from it.
  • Move your gadget to a higher location if it’s on the floor.
  • It’s also not good to leave your Fire TV Stick in a cabinet console while it’s not in use.

Checking the Application

To manage installed applications, go to Settings, then open Applications.

  • Next, select Manage Installed Applications.
  • Look for the app that isn’t streaming correctly, then choose Force Stop to shut it.
  • Go to the Clear Data settings to delete the app’s data.

Fire TV Remote App Issues

A remotely controlled app for your phone is compatible with the Fire TV Stick. If your Fire TV remote is misplaced or the buttons on your remote stop working, you may use this app to replace it.

However, the app might not operate with the Fire TV Stick in some cases.

To Fix

  • Check if your Fire TV Stick and your Fire TV app-enabled device are on the same Wi-Fi network. To work, they must connect to the same network.
  • Check whether some connected device reflects the Fire TV Stick’s display. If another device is present, the mobile app will not function, and you will need to stop mirroring.
  • Restart the Fire TV Stick as well as the mobile device.
  • It’s worth noting that the Fire TV Stick can only be associated with up to seven devices, including the included remote control.
  • To test if your smart device can couple, unpair any linked devices.

If you know your way around your Wi-Fi network, you can see if the Multicast option is enabled. You may also see if the Fire TV Stick has a static IP address. You may access these options by consulting your router’s documentation.

Blank Screen on the Fire TV

When utilizing the Fire TV Stick, you could see a blank screen from time to time. But don’t get too worked up just yet; there are a few things you may attempt.

To Fix

  • If your TV only shows a blank screen if you’re using the Fire TV Stick, check that it’s configured to the input source to which it connects.
  • If you’re using the Fire TV Stick’s input source, carefully detach it and reconnect it since there’s a potential it didn’t plug the first time correctly.
  • Try plugging it in directly to see if it works whether you’re using a hub with the Fire TV Stick.

Lack of Playback Audio

It’s possible that the hub, or the hub’s connecting cable, is to blame.

Make sure you’re using a solid HDMI cable if you’re using a Fire TV Cube, a smart speaker that doubles as a Fire TV Stick.

To Fix

  • The first thing you should do is make sure your television isn’t on mute or at a low level.
  • Make sure the external speaker on your TV is on.
  • It’s also good to disconnect and re-plug the Fire TV Stick.
  • If you’re using a hub with your Fire TV Stick, try connecting it straight to the TV. It’s essential to remember that the HDMI port cable also contains audio signals.
  • You might also disable Dolby Digital Plus Output. Simply go to the Settings menu, then to Display and Sounds. Look for Dolby Digital Output under Audio, then deactivate it.
