Design & Build Quality

The KM7 design is plain and simple with compact dimensions. It is a minimalistic design but one that is well-thought-out. At the front, there are LEDs to represent power, network, and IR. Whereas the bottom contains ventilation holes and four rubber legs to provide stability on all surfaces.

All the ports are available at the back and have decent distances between them to ensure convenience. Thus, you can easily plug or unplug a cable without disturbing those that are adjacent to it.

Although it uses plastic as construction material, it is quite sturdy and durable. That said, the surface is easily scratchable so, you would not want to place it next to sharp objects.

Ease Of Set-Up & Connectivity

Setting up Mecool KM7 is super easy and involves no hassle. You can easily connect it to a TV via HDMI cable which is included in the box. Moreover, an AV port is also available but needs a cable but you will need to purchase that separately. Once the cables are in place, turn on the TV and switch to the HDMI channel.

You would be able to easily connect with Wi-Fi thanks to its simple yet intuitive interface. Wi-Fi operates on dual-band frequencies which offer a stable, reliable, and fast internet connection. LAN port is also available but it is not very convenient especially when the router is not placed in close proximity.

The Mecool box can be controlled via remote control and voice commands. Bluetooth 5.0 establishes a connection between both devices which is super-fast with speeds up to 2Mbps. It offers minimal latency and a lag-free experience. The icing on the cake? It has a whopping range of 800 feet.

The microphone is built into the remote control which can be used to instruct Google Assistant to execute several commands. With the super-fast and long-range Bluetooth connection, users can operate the device from any part of the house.

KM7 houses ARM Cortex A35 and ARM G31 as CPU and GPU respectively. Both these chips are neither cutting-edge nor most advanced but they get the job done. Frankly, there are not many options out there with better specifications.

Users that stream videos and occasionally dabble with light games would experience a flawless performance. Phone casting is also pretty quick and offers minimal latency.

The box delivers smooth and seamless performance because it is optimized for streaming services. AV1 decoding enables it to stream HD videos without consuming too much bandwidth. In simple words, even if the internet is a bit slow the TV box ensures lag and interruption-free streaming.

Furthermore, the box also does not disappoint at multitasking. Thanks to 4GB RAM, users can open as many applications as they want and switch between them in milliseconds.

Video Quality

TV Box is not the sole determinant of video and image quality but it plays a key role. Fortunately, KM7 does not disappoint when combined with a decent TV.

ARM G31 performs an incredible job at rendering the colors and details in the videos. It offers 60fps at 2K and tones it down to 30fps on 4K videos.

That said, not many OTT platforms offer 4K video streaming as of yet but users can enjoy the experience of YouTube videos. You can also stream media via flash drive or SD card.

Built-in & Downloadable Applications

KM7 runs android 11 which is the latest version and supports all the applications on Google Play Store. You can install all sorts of applications including games, social media, lifestyle, and those related to education.

Furthermore, it is a Google-certified product which means it will receive regular updates for Android that ensure security and compatibility with upcoming applications.

The only problem is that it is not certified by Netflix which means you cannot download the application via the App Store. It can be worked around via third-party apps but even then, it only supports 1080p resolution.

The point is users can utilize the android box to its full potential with Netflix. I guess most users will be willing to make this compromise.

All the built-in applications are optimized for the TV box and run flawlessly. Some of the popular applications are:

  • Amazon’s Prime Videos
  • Spotify
  • Disney Plus
  • YouTube
  • Tubi TV
  • Google Assistant

Conclusion – Is KM7 Android TV Box Worth The Investment?

KM7 is one of the few Chinese TV boxes that has received Google certificates. It also boasts AV1 decoding which is quite rare in this price bracket and makes the streaming experience more enjoyable.

The TV box comes with built-in OTT applications that are optimized with its hardware to ensure smooth performance. Again, a rare feature in this price bracket.

Even if we nitpick, lack of Netflix certificate is the only problem but that can also be worked around. So, all things considered, KM7 is an excellent TV box to stream high-definition streaming on multiple platforms.

Occasional gamers would also find it quite decent. We hope that this Mecool Android TV box review has been helpful. Thank you!
