Game of Thrones Season 1: The Sublime Starks, the Lamentable Lannisters, and the Treacherous Targaryens

The first season in the index of game of thrones, season one features ten unskippable episodes, which set the stage for the story in the coming seasons. The noble Starks introduce themselves to the audience. And the deplorable Lannisters and their schemes as well.

The characters to watch out for in the first season include Ned Stark, his son Brandon and Lannister siblings Cersei and Jamie. In addition, two other important characters include Daenerys and Viserys, the Targaryen siblings with a claim to the Iron throne as well.

The backstory is that King Robert Baratheon with the help of his friend Ned Stark started a rebellion against Targaryen Dynasty. The two crushed the Targaryen after Mad King, the Aerys II Targaryen was killed by Jamie Lannister who was Kingsguard. Hence, earned him the title the “KingSlayer”.  

Furthermore, season one also brings to life the White Walkers. Terrifying mythical creatures are first met in the show by the Night’s Watch, who guard the massive wall on the northern border of Westeros.

Robert Baratheon travels to Winterfell, a region in the far north that is ruled by starks to recruit a new King’s Hand as Jon Arryn, the guy who held the office before, dies in mysterious circumstances. He proposes this office to the old friend Ned Stark in addition to the marriage proposal for Sansa, Ned’s Daughter for his elder son Joffery.

Meanwhile, Brandon Stark accidentally catches Cersei and Jamie engaged in incest. Upon realizing that they are caught, Jamie pushes Brandon from the top of the building. Consequently, leaving him paralyzed.  

Despite the reservations of Catelyn Stark, Ned accepts the proposal and travels with Baratheon. Ned Stark travels with part of his family to King’s Landing as the king’s newly appointed hand; it is here where he engages in a battle of intrigue and deceit. He discovers that Joffery and Tomen are sons of Jamie as a result of incest between siblings. This can make the claim of Robert’s supposed sons to the Iron Throne illegal.

Moving on, Ned wants to inform the king about the hideous Lannister scheme but Cersei has already arranged for the King’s death. Furthermore, as Ned confronts Cersei with the recently acquired information, she makes a plan to take care of Ned as well. The season features the subsequent deaths of Ned and Joffrey ruling the Iron Throne.

The second season of the game of thrones series takes place in a world torn apart by the fallout of Eddard Stark’s execution. The season starts with the War of Five Kings. Robb Stark captures Jamie Lannister in battle and declares war on King’s Landing. 

Meanwhile, a letter from Ned outs Joffery’s illegitimacy to Stannis Baratheon, who marches for the throne. Simultaneously, Theon Greyjoy turns on the Starks and joins his father and sister in the war against the North, capturing Winterfell and forcing Bran to flee into the wild. 

Furthermore, Daenerys Targaryen, despite the ill-thought plan of her brothers and the death of her husband Khal Drogo, finds a considerable force of allies. Plus, she also had three newly born dragons beside her which strike fear in her enemies in Essos.

Moving on, Jon Snow, the bastard son of Ned Stark also finds a new home in the night watch. Whereas, Arya who is on the run after the decapitation of her father is taken captive in Harrenhal castle. Rob Stark continues to win victories in an effort to avenge his father. Furthermore, he also finds love with Talisa Maegyr who is a battlefield healer and an intellectual with views about seven kingdoms.

The third season in the index of game of thrones features unimaginable bloodshed, betrayal, and tragedy. Robb Stark agrees to marry Walder Frey’s daughter but reneges on his promise, choosing to marry a healer, Talisa, instead. 

Walder Frey invites Robb Stark to a feast when in a cunning scheme devised by the Lannisters where he was promised Riverrun, Frey turns on the Starks, Robb, Catelyn, Talisa, and the army of the North get cut down in the Red Wedding. 

Furthermore, season three also features the awakening of night walkers who attack night watchmen. The surviving soldiers pledge to return to the wall which separates seven kingdoms from wilding.   

Meanwhile, beyond the wall, John Snow develops a relationship with Ygritte, a wildling; elsewhere across the sea, Daenerys Targaryen gathers an army of 8000 elite Unsullied soldiers with the aim of reclaiming her ancestral throne. Furthermore, Bran, the last surviving Stark son learns that he can warg into wolf bodies. Arya is captured by the Brotherhood without banners and watches the dead come back to life. This is where she falls into the hands of Hound who takes her to Frey’s palace to reunite her with Rob and Catelyn. However, it is too late her almost entire family is killed in the red wedding.

The fourth season features ten Game of Thrones webisodes. King Joffrey, the hated, sadistic king who ordered the execution of Ned Stark, meets his end at his wedding to Margery Tyrell. 

Joffrey drinks from a poisoned goblet and meets a gruesome, painful end. His mother, Cersei, blames Tyrion, who had handed Joffrey the goblet, while Sansa gets smuggled out of King’s Landing and sent to her Aunt Lysa by Baelish. 

Furthermore, Tyrion’s fate is to be determined by a trial by combat, which his champion Oberyn loses to Gregor Clegane; however, he is freed by Jaime. 

In his escape, Tyrion kills Tywin with a crossbow after discovering that Tywin had been sleeping with Shae, with whom Tyrion had fallen in love. Tyrion joins Vareys for a trip towards Essos where Daenerys has a considerable force behind her. The Targaryen Queen learns ruling is more than just owning three dragons and an elite army.

As she liberates the slaves of the marines’ other cities start a rebellion against her. Furthermore, the dragons are also out of control and killing the livestock of innocent farmers. This is in addition to learning that her most trusted ally Sir Jorah was a spy all along.

Moving on, Arya Sails off for Braavos to find The House of Black and White. She learned about it from a man named Jaqen H’ghar whom she freed from captivity. This is after a fight breaks out between the Hound and Brienne of Tarth. The hound is critically injured and left by Arya to die.

Meanwhile, the night castle is attacked by wildings, people who live beyond the wall. Jon Snow and his comrades successfully defend the castle but at the cost of his life Ygritte and several other brothers. However, Jon shows grace towards wilding which is not appreciated by some night brothers.

The fifth season in the index of game of thrones features Cersei Lannister having to bury her father and growing worried about her daughter Marcella; she orders Jaime to bring her back from Dorne. The season opens with Cersei waking up to a witch’s prophecy that one day she will lose everything. The prophecy begins to seem true as she mourns her father and slain son. Furthermore, to make matters worse, she is even losing control over surviving children.  

Furthermore, Margery Tyrell marries the new king, Tommen, but Cersei despises her and plots against her, weaponizing the High Sparrow, who turns on her imprisoning her, and her incest is let out to the public. To escape, she has to endure the walk of shame, walking through the streets of kings landing entirely naked.

Meanwhile, the Night’s Watch elects Jon Snow as their leader, with Castle Black managing to repel Mance Rayder’s army with Stannis Baratheon’s help. However, Stannis is convinced by the witch Melisandre to burn his daughter alive.

Most of his men desert him, and he loses in the battle to the Boltons, meeting his end to Brienne of Tarth outside Winterfell, who avenges Renly. 

Sansa Stark is given to Ramsay Snow by Littlefinger, but Ramsay tortures her while forcing Theon to watch; seeing who he thought as his sister at one point being tortured makes him regain himself, and he helps Sansa escape.

Season six of the web series game of thrones kicks off with Jon Snow’s revival after he was betrayed and murdered in season five. He uses his death as justification to leave the Night’s Watch and seeks to regain Winterfell. 

In the critically acclaimed ‘Battle of the Bastards,’ Jon faces off against Ramsay, with Rickon losing his life and Jon nearly losing the battle; the tides turn when the Knights of the Vale arrive at his side. 

In King’s Landing, Cersei blows the Great Sept with wildfire, killing the High Sparrow and Queen Margery to regain control; however, Tommen commits suicide. 

Elsewhere, in the House of White and Black, Arya trains as an assassin and returns to Westeros, murdering Walder Frey. Meanwhile, Bran trains his powers with the three-eyed raven, eventually succeeding him.

Daenerys has arrived and considers her options at Dragonstone, where Jon comes to warn her of the Night King; they consider joining hands with the Lannisters to defend the seven kingdoms against this threat. 

However, war breaks out, and Daenerys takes Casterly Rock; however, Jaime uses the opportunity to take Highgarden, murdering Olena Tyrell, who confesses to poisoning Joffrey in her final moments. 

Cersei marries Euron Greyjoy and gains the Iron fleet in return, and Jon and Daenerys go beyond the wall to capture a White Walker; however, they lose a dragon in the process. 

After seeing the White Walker, Cersei agrees to join Jon and Daenerys against the Night King; however, she reneges on her promise; Jaime, disgusted, leaves her and joins Jon and Daenerys.

In Winterfell, Littlefinger plots and tells Sansa that Arya seeks to kill her; however, Sansa distrusts him and instead has him killed.

Game of Thrones Season 8: The Final Battles and the End of an Era

The first half of the season focuses on the Great War against the Army of the Dead, with the White Walkers approaching Winterfell, Jon, Daenerys, and their men seeking to defend the city, building a flame-lit wall around it. 

The Night King aims to kill the three-eyed raven, Bran. He is kept safe by Theon Greyjoy, who gives his life to protect him. The Night King is eventually lured out and jumped by Arya, who kills him with her Valerian steel dagger.

The battle ends with the defeat of the White Walkers, and Jon reveals his true identity as a Targaryen to Daenarys, Sansa, and Arya; however, Daenarys asks him to keep it a secret as it would give him a better claim to the throne than her, and she wants to be queen. 

However, Sansa wants Jon to be king, so she reveals the secret to Tyrion, who also tells Varys. 

The second half of the season features the final war for the Iron throne. However, the buildup is marred with Daenerys suffering blows, first her claim to the throne, next her losing another dragon after a surprise attack from Euron’s fleet.

The culmination of her anguish is Daenerys burning down the entirety of King’s Landing, slaughtering thousands of civilians from atop Drogon; when she finally rests, Jon comes up to her to hug her and kills her with a dagger. 

Cersei and Jamie die, and the leaders of Westeros appoint Bran as the king, while Jon goes into exile and Sansa rules the North. Arya sails west, and Tyrion becomes the hand of the new king.
