Today we’re going to show you how to install IPVanish on any Mac computer, whether it’s a Macbook, a Mac mini, a Mac tower computer, or any other apple product. In this post you’ll learn how to protect all of your online information by installing a VPN on your Mac. IPVanish is far and away one of the very best VPNs you can install to protect your privacy, which is why we recommend it. So let’s just go ahead and set up IPVanish on your Mac so that you can download anything you want anonymously and privately.
Download IPVanish on Mac
So the first thing we want to do is open this link to Download IPVanish in your browser window. You can do this on your phone or your computer doesn’t matter. You may also notice a free discount code for IPVanish has already been applied for you! All you need to do is go to that address in your browser and then you click Start Now.
Next all you need to do is:
WARNING FIRESTICK USERS
YOUR INFORMATION IS EXPOSED
Your location is: Ashburn VA
Your current IP address is: 2001:4455:2f7:b700:f880:7bad:b46b:1768
You can stream and download anonymously through your PC, Mac, Android, and iPhone through IP Vanish.
- Choose whichever plan you want
- Enter your email address and password
- Enter your credit card information
- Then hit I Agree and continue
Once you’ve entered all your information, the service will charge your credit card. At that point it will probably take you to a page where you can download the IPVanish app, but if it doesn’t do that, no worries. You can go to IPVanish.com and then just click on Apps right at the top of the screen.
Google trackers are lurking on 75% of websites. Cover your tracks to protect yourself.
Go ahead and click on Apps, if you haven’t already, and then just click Download Now. After that, click Download Mac App and then you should see the download starting in the bottom left corner of your browser window.
Install VPN for Mac
So now that the download is finished the next thing you’ll want to do is click on the downloaded IPVanish file in order to launch and install it.
When a window opens with the IPVanish inside, you’ll want to click on it with your mouse, and drag it over to the Applications folder in your Finder. Wait for the application to finish copying over to the new folder. Once it’s done, you can double click on the IPVanish VPN icon inside the Applications folder on your Mac. If a box appears asking for approval to open the downloaded application, click Open.
Adjust IPVanish Settings and Enable Killswitch
Congratulations! You’ve now installed the IPVanish VPN to your Mac computer. Now when you go to the top menu of your computer, you should see IPVanish written right next to the Apple icon. This is where we’re going to start optimizing the settings on your VPN.
- Click on IPVanish VPN from the menu in the top-left corner of your computer screen
- Then click on Preferences
- In the Preferences window, under Open VPN Options, you want to make sure that the Kill Switch box is checked
- I also recommend you check the Scramble box for added privacy and anonymity
- Quit Preferences
Now you’re all set up and good to go! Essentially what this is going to do is shut off the internet connection to your Mac when it is not properly connected to the VPN, so that your computer cannot send out any unsecured information. While you’re connected to the VPN everything you send out or receive is 100% secure, but if something interrupts the connection with your VPN then your computer will also shut off WiFi connection so that your information will only be sent or received through a secured network.
This means if you’re downloading a movie (legally, of course) or sensitive financial information you never have to worry about whether your data is being protected from unwanted eyes. If you ever send any sensitive information through your computer (and who doesn’t), then you can certainly see why it’s important to have this extra layer of protection. We absolutely can’t urge you enough to get a VPN and Kill Switch set up on your Mac computer.
Notice: Hackers create fake WiFi hotspots to steal your passwords when you log in to public WiFi. Secure your data.
More Information About Mac VPNs
You may be asking yourself whether it’s really all that important to get a VPN installed on your Mac. I mean, after all, you haven’t gotten in trouble yet, right? That’s a little like asking why you should lock your doors at night, because you don’t see a thief waiting outside. Still, we understand the hesitation. We’ve talked a lot about VPN protection on this site, and have all sorts of great information for you to check out. Free vs Paid VPNs
You might also wonder why you would ever need to pay for a VPN, when there are more free options out there than you can shake a stick at. Well in this case, the old maxim is true: You get what you pay for. While free VPNs may seem tempting, they come with a whole bunch of downsides.
- Traffic Redirecting
- Less Security
- Sold Data
- Limited Bandwidth
The truth is, you’re just never gonna get the same results from a free VPN that you can from a good, reliable paid VPN. Not only that, but you give up a lot of your rights and security when you take advantage of one of these “free” services. We’ve done the research, and that’s why we recommend IPVanish as one of the very best of the best for price and quality. There are some things that are worth it, and we believe privacy and security are high on that list.
