You may notice that a lot of these are basically like hitting refresh on a machine to clear out what’s not working and trying again. In a way we’re doing the app version of slapping the side of your TV until it starts working. But hey, if it works it works!

Here’s how to uninstall and reinstall an app on your Firestick:

If you’re using a 3rd-party app that isn’t in the app store (a lot of people use these apps in order stream free movies and TV shows from their Firestick, you’re going to need to go through the process for that app. Here are guides for downloading and installing a lot of popular 3rd party free streaming apps:

3. Rebooting the Device

Ahhh, the old IT classic. Have you tried turning it off and turning it back on again? There’s a reason that this is a go-to recommendation. It works!

There are a few different ways you can go about this, through menu settings on your Amazon Firestick device, but I’m going to recommend the most straightforward one:

  • Unplug your Amazon Firestick streaming device
  • Wait about 10-15 seconds
  • Plug your Firestick back in
  • Wait for the Firestick to power back on
  • Try using the app that was giving you the Firestick error 0066

With any luck, this will do the trick. And it does a surprising amount of the time.

4. Test on Another Device

Now we’re doing a little more troubleshooting to see if we can understand the cause of the Firestick error 0066 on your device. If you have another Firestick to test out, that would be ideal, but if not you can easily test out most streaming apps on your mobile device or laptop computer.

This is going to tell us if the problem is with the Firestick, or with the service you’re using.

For example, if Netflix isn’t working on both your Firestick AND your laptop, then there’s probably an issue with your Netflix account that you need to look into.

5. Change Your Password

This one didn’t make much sense to us, but there are a lot of reports that this has helped people who are having the Firestick error 0066, so we’re going to recommend that you give it a shot.

There are, apparently, some characters that can cause trouble with certain app authentication systems. If the system has trouble processing your password, then it’s not going to know whether or not to let you log in! There’s also just the possibility that this password reset helps shake loose whatever problem was causing the Firestick error 0066 and helps you resync your account.

6. Clear Firestick App Cache

While changing your password might be a bit of an unconventional fix, this one is a time-honored classic. And deservedly so! Clearing your cache is going to allow your apps to operate with a clean slate, potentially removing any lingering bugs that are causing your Firestick error 0066. Here’s how to do it:

Select Settings from the Home page on your Firestick

✓ Click on Applications

✓ Click on Manage Installed Applications

You will now get a list of the installed applications. Select one, and you will see information such as file size, data storage, and cache size.

Click on the app that you’re having trouble with (Kodi for instance)

✓ Click on Clear Cache

That’s it! Now go back and try the app again to see if the problem is resolved.

7. Restart Your Router

It may not seem intuitive, but it’s possible that there’s a network issue at the root of your Firestick error 0066 problems. The good news is that this is a really easy one to test for. All you need to do is:

  • Unplug your internet router
  • Wait about 10-15 seconds
  • Plug your router back in
  • Wait for the router to power back on and for internet connection to return
  • Try using the app that was giving you the Firestick error 0066

That’s all! Not bad, right?

8. Reset Firestick to Factory Settings

Unfortunately, we’re officially left with what amounts to the nuclear option. This is something I always try to avoid, and it’s typically the last thing I do. The good news, is that it almost always works. The bad news is that it’s going to do exactly what it says. It’s going to restore your Firestick back to exactly the way it was when you pulled it out of the box.

This means that most of your apps will be uninstalled, any custom settings well be removed, and you’ll be signed out of, well… everything. Needless to say it’s not a fun time, but when everything else has failed, factory rest is always there for us. Here’s what you need to do:

  • Hold down the select button (that’s the big round button on the Firestick remote) and the pause/play button at the same time
  • Keep them both held down for about five seconds
  • After a moment, the Firestick will start to reboot and, when it comes back up after a minute or two, everything should be set and your Firestick should work right.

9. Contact Firestick Support

The above methods have proven effective in surmounting the challenge posed by Firestick error 0066.
