How to Make Your Firestick Fast and Avoid Buffering

Fire TV & FireStick, How To

Many Firestick users complain that their Amazon Firestick keeps buffering while playing online movies.

This is a common problem.

Its main cause is the internet speed that you are getting on your Firestick device.

Some people have super fast and expensive Wi-Fi gaming routers and internet setups so they might never encounter this problem, but for millions of average consumers around the world that have a moderate Wi-Fi connection, this is truly a headache.

But don’t worry your little Firestick-using head, in this article, we’ll take a look at some of the most useful methods that you can utilize to make your Firestick faster and prevent it from buffering.

7 Ways to Speed Up Firestick and Fix Buffering

1.  Check your internet speed

To proceed further, first, you’ll have to check the amount of internet signal that your Firestick device is getting.

Follow these steps to do so:

  • Open an internet explorer (Chrome, Firefox, Opera, etc.) on your Firestick.
  • Type fast.com or speedtest.net in the address bar and press ok.

This should take you to fast.com; here you would automatically find the amount of internet signal your Firestick is getting.

Your internet speed, especially Wi-Fi signal is affected by other wireless devices and even the walls of your house.

If you find the signal is weak, you can either upgrade your Internet package or continue to follow any one of the below-mentioned steps.

2.  Turn off Collect App usage data

Your Firestick device collects the app usage data for various purposes, but none of them are vital for your streaming experience. This function also uses a little bit of internet bandwidth. So, why not turn this useless feature off?

To do this:

  1. Go to Firestick settings.
  2. Then select “applications
  3. Now select Collect app usage data and turn it off.

That’s it!

3.  Change your preferences

See the “Featured Content” menu item? Go into that and turn it OFF to speed up your Firestick

Changing the settings of the Firestick preferences may also help. So, let’s take a look at what you should change.

  • Data monitoring: From your Firestick home screen, go to settings> preferences> data monitoring and turn the option off. This saves some of the processing power of your Firestick device.
  • Notification settings: Go to settings> preferences> notification settings. Turn ON the “Do not interrupt” options. Then click on app notifications and turn them off one by one. This step ensures that all of the processing power and internet is concentrated on optimizing your viewing experience.
  • Featured content: Go back to settings> preferences> featured content. Now turn OFF the “Allow video autoplay” and “Allow audio autoplay.”

4.  If you are using a VPN

Many Firestick users use VPN (Virtual Private Network) in order to access the content of other regions. This may also work. But another fact is that your Firestick uses its maximum processing power to keep the VPN running. Also, if you are using a free VPN, it might limit your internet speed.

So, you can consider turning off your VPN for a while if you are facing any buffering problems.

5.  Use a Firestick Cleaner App like CM Lite

6.  Delete some apps!

I can’t stress this step enough.  Just go into System – Applications – Manage Applications, then Uninstall some Apps.

FYI, apps that use over 100MB of space on Firestick should probably be removed (if you’re having space issues).

7.  If all else fails, Restore Firestick to Factory Settings

Yes, if you can’t seem to make your Firestick fast, then you should Reset Firestick to Factory Default Settings.

A bonus tip:

Here is a popular working trick. If you want to stream movies on Firestick, TV show or any other thing, try to stream it from an unpopular and less often used server. Because popular servers often have more workload, so the performance starts decreasing.
