Firestick Emulators 2024 Update: 4K Performance BOOST

It has been about 3 years since I made a Firestick Emulators video / tutorial / anything!

Tip: If you’re here for N64 Emulators, you can go check that emulator list out now.

And since the (4K) Firestick hardware is now much improved over what it originally was (2nd Gen Firestick), the emulation capabilities of the Firestick are vastly improved as well.

For example, I just now installed the Happy Chick emulator (APK: on my Firestick, connected an old Bluetooth gamepad to the Firestick, and instantly started playing Mario Kart at full frame rate with no lag and total playability.

Pro Tip: Download HappyChick now at the official HappyChick site:

This transition from 2nd Gen Firestick to 4K Firestick is a huge improvement over the old Firestick!

UPDATE: I tested the Playstation 4 DualShock 4 controller on my Firestick and it works great! Just put your PS4 controller into Pairing mode by holding down both the PS button and the SHARE button for 5 seconds until the PS4 controller’s light starts flashing. Then on your Firestick, go to Settings, Controllers & Bluetooth Devices, Game Controllers, Add New Game Controller.

Note about Bluetooth Gamepads for Firestick: Most decent Bluetooth gamepads seem to work fine on Firestick. For example, the old OUYA Bluetooth game controller works fine.

I’ve had decent results with the PS4 DualShock controller while playing Firestick emulators! And yes – you can play PS1 ROMs!

Firestick Controllers / Gamepads for Playing Emulators

  • PS4 Controller (my personal favorite – seems to pair somewhat easily with Firestick and works well after that. Google “pair PS4 controller to Firestick” if you have issues)
  • I’ve heard the Bluetooth generation of Xbox controllers work well with Firestick, but haven’t confirmed this
  • OUYA Bluetooth Gamepad
  • Generic Bluetooth gamepads from Amazon, such as the Matricom Bluetooth gamepad
  • USB 8BitDO Gamepad (N64 / SNES / Sega / Nintendo etc)

Here’s what I’m using for my Firestick Emulator setup:

  • 4K Firestick ($49 on Amazon, sometimes $25 on sale)
  • Happy Chick Emulator FOR TV (not for phones / tablets) (FREE)
  • OUYA Bluetooth game controller (it was about $50 on Amazon 5 years ago but that’s too old to recommend – don’t get this one – get a new one that’s like it)

..and I’m also using an Epson 1060 projector and Bose Bluetooth soundbar to add a bit of scale & oomph to it all.

That’s all!
