Download HBO Max on Firestick: Unsupported Version Error

Some users are experiencing an error that displays an “Unsupported Version” message on the screen. So, if you run into a problem while you download HBO Max on Firestick, try this trick before installation.

• On the Home screen of your device, go to Settings open and then select Applications
• Click Manage Installed Application in the following panel
• Scroll down and find the Appstore. Click on it

Under the My List and Continue Watching sections, you get some more promoted content with rows for Max originals, TV series, and movies. 

9 hub buttons under this section give you an idea of how big HBO Max actually is. From this place, you can hop over to DC, Sesame Workshop, TCM, Studio Ghibli, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, Crunchyroll (anime), or Looney Tunes.

Other rows include highlighted buddy comedies, family movies, TV shows, and mysteries. There are even rows for “The Continued Fight for Civil Rights” and LGBTQ Programming, which are a much welcome addition to the HBO Max library. Likewise, the rows for musicals, fantasy, crime, and blockbusters follow the same format.

A menu on the left-hand side of the screen breaks things out by genre. It has separate categories for Series, Movies, and HBO Max Originals. Besides this, it includes the Last Chance, Just Added, and Coming Soon categories. Some of the TV shows lack curation, though. For example, the home screen highlights that Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is a show but doesn’t list its episodes around categories. So you can only watch from episode 1. 

HBO Max 4K HDR Streaming

Unfortunately, HBO Max comes without any option for 4K streaming. What’s more, HDR is also unavailable. However, the good news is, these features are already in development. As per reports, starting with the release of Wonder Woman 1984 on December 25, 2020, HBO Max will start streaming in 4K HDR. Be sure to download HBO Max on Firestick before then!

Till then, you have to make do with regular resolution streams. In comparison, Disney+ launched with 4K HDR support from day one. Similarly, Netflix also has 4K HDR support but is limited only to premium subscriptions, which costs a wee bit more ($1 more than HBO Max).
