Here are the top ten best action movies to watch at home.

#1 – Jurassic Park

Jurassic Park is a classic movie that combines science fiction, action, and dinosaurs; what’s not to love?

The movie is based on the 1990’s novel by Michael Crichton. Jurassic Park takes place on the fictional island of Isla Nublar, where a group of genetic scientists has created a wildlife park featuring extinct dinosaurs.

A sudden shutdown of the park’s power and security measures results in the visitors to the park and the owner’s grandchildren becoming trapped alone on the island with the dinosaurs.

Spend an intense two hours with those trapped on Nublar as they try their best to survive and escape the island in one piece. Plus, it’s the source of endless references, great one-liners, and memes – not watching this movie is basically a crime in and of itself.

#2 – Casino Royale

Casino Royale has one of the best opening sequences of all time and is almost worth watching for the one sequence alone. You learn everything you need to know about the new Bond and the direction that the latest set of movies will be taking.

Casino Royale is also an amazing introduction for Daniel Craig, who manages to reinvent the classic movie character without losing the core qualities of the character and the wider Bond series.

Bond returns to the classic book description of his character as a “blunt instrument,” at one point quite literally bursting through a wall in the pursuit of the bad guy.

He is suave, the action sequences are intense, and the whole thing is vintage Bond.

#3 – Die Hard

It’s Die Hard; what else is there to say? It is a Christmassy action movie in all the right ways.

John McClane is forced to be a half spy, half action hero, and a full incredible badass in thwarting the efforts of a group of thieves disguised as eco-terrorists trying to blow up his wife’s workplace.

Just like Jurassic Park, Die Hard is jam-packed with one-liners and great moments that have heavily infiltrated pop culture. So much so, that not watching this movie feels like committing some great cinema sin.

Die Hard is just another one of those classic action movies that everyone has to watch at least once.

#4 – The Fugitive

The Fugitive is a weird one because it is really not much of an action movie, but rather a murder mystery and an extended chase sequence with a few big action set-pieces dotted throughout.

Based on a critically acclaimed TV show from decades ago, the main character attempts to solve his wife’s murder for which he was initially framed.

He spends the whole movie using his smarts to outwit bad guys and good guys alike while doing the police’s jobs for them.

Simply put, it’s pretty great.

#5 – Edge of Tomorrow

Edge of Tomorrow is the enigmatically named action genre’s answer to the time loop trend in recent sci-fi movies.

Stuck in a repeating time loop of a D-Day-Esque invasion to liberate Europe from aliens, Edge of Tomorrow is a quintessential alien action movie.

It’s got Emily Blunt being gorgeous and badass; it’s got Tom Cruise sprinting for the whole 1 hour and 53 minutes; it’s filled with incredible one-liners and references that make it part of the cultural zeitgeist.

#6 – Aliens

‘Aliens’ is the first movie in a long-running franchise of movies, games, and comics focused on humanity’s attempted exploration into space and its horrific consequences.

However, the whole story is essentially limited to a single spacecraft, with the crew hunted by a vicious alien bent on killing everyone.

This movie has one of the original super badass female heroines. It’s surprisingly scary as well as action intense.

#7 – Taken

The classic vengeance plot, Taken, is all about mowing down a group of bad guys in the hunt to save one’s family.

It is a little bit of a mystery that’s also filled with intense action and fast-paced negotiation.

The whole series of movies is pretty great and usually pretty well-edited (something very important for action movies)… but maybe you should still give Taken 3 a miss.

#8 – Train to Busan

This blockbuster hit is a now-classic zombie movie and one of the first mainstream Korean movies to break its way into western consciousness.

It is basically snakes on a plane, but with zombies on a train. Plus, it’s actually a good watch, unlike the ludicrous Snakes on a Plane, so it is already way better.

#9 – Top Gun

Top Gun maybe halfway to a military propaganda movie, but it is still one of the best action movies of all time, focusing on fighter pilots, camaraderie, and volleyball.

There is plenty of intense action and slightly overly Americanized valor, but it still leaves you with a warm, fuzzy feeling at the end.

#10 – Hot Fuzz

Speaking of fuzzy, Hot Fuzz is part of the Three Flavors Cornetto Trilogy and redefines the buddy cop action-comedy genre.

Somehow, it is also a murder mystery, despite its constant comedic turns and silliness. It manages to tie in a murder plot, an ancient, secretive cult, and a bunch of great jokes about the rural English countryside all at once.

All of the Cornetto Trilogy movies are brilliant, but Hot Fuzz is by far the best.
